Character Illustration for Client's App

Three character poses of Chester, a marketing mascot

Objective

Our client approached us with a vision for their new app. They wanted to create an engaging and intuitive user experience by incorporating a character that would guide users through the app. The objective was to design a character that could appear in various poses to provide clear instructions and enhance user interaction.

Approach

We began with a detailed consultation to understand the client's vision, target audience, and the specific functionalities of the app. Knowing the app's purpose and user flow was crucial for designing a relevant and effective character. Our team brainstormed several character concepts, keeping in mind the client's preference for a friendly, approachable, and relatable guide. After presenting a few initial sketches, we collaborated closely with the client to refine the character’s look and personality. To add a personal touch and foster a connection with users, we named the character. This name was chosen to be easy to remember and resonate with the app's theme. We developed a series of 12 distinct poses for the character. Each pose was designed to correspond with a specific step in the app, ensuring the character could effectively guide users through various processes. These poses included actions such as pointing, holding objects, and displaying emotions to convey messages clearly and engagingly. Throughout the process, we maintained regular communication with the client, sharing updates and gathering feedback. This iterative approach ensured that the final product aligned perfectly with the client’s expectations and needs.

Results

Despite the app not being developed, our client expressed high satisfaction with the end-product. They appreciated the character’s design, the thoughtful approach to creating the poses, and our responsiveness to their feedback. The character illustrations provided the client with a tangible visualization of how their app could engage users. This helped them in pitching their concept to potential investors and stakeholders. The series of poses created for the character showcased its versatility, demonstrating how it could adapt to different app functions and contexts. This versatility added significant value to the project, showing that the character could be used across various platforms and media if needed.
